For over two years from 2013 to 2014, a project team from Tokyo University of Arts collected and preserved damaged footages of 8mm home movies which were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011 in Ofunato City, Iwate, and in Namiemachi, Fukushima. After the team and owner families had salvaged their prints and restored, filmmaker Miyoshi Daisuke compiled them into one film per each region. Miyoshi has been engaged in this home-movie revival project, "Chiiki Eiga" (community cinema), extending it to other regions such as Azumino, Nagano or Shodoshima Island, Kagawa. With his attendance, we will talk about the aims and the history of this project, as well as the significance of sharing old home movies in local communities.
