What We Achieved and What We Didn't
私たちにできたこと できなかったこと

Are you a good person or a bad person? No one will argue that he is a good person if he had stayed for months to volunteer at the disaster struck area. If he has stolen money from elderly and children saying that they would be donated, then he is indeed a bad person. The majority of Japanese citizens are neither “good” nor “bad,” but they might just fall into the category of “good when need be or sometimes.” You have shed some tears watching the news of the disaster. You have donated some change for the recovery effort. You even threw some words of encouragement. Then you went to a grocery store and stuck your hand on the shelf to pick the freshest rice ball out of the bunch. Don’t worry. I have done that too. I’m not saying this is good, but I think people like us hold the key to the recovery effort. Because the majority of people are like this. I only wish people who are “good when need be or sometimes” can be little more active. That’s what I was thinking as I shot this film in Yamagata.
