This documentary portrays 'matagi' (traditional hunters of the Tohoku region of northern part of Japan) living in Kaneyama Town, Okuaizu, Fukushima. In 2011, radioactive fallouts contaminated the nature of Kaneyama Town which is 130 km distant from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Matagi of Kaneyama Town hunt bears, while they have a significant role to convey the ongoing changes in the natural environment to human beings. After the Fukushima nuclear disaster occurred, people around the world started heading for harmonized symbiosis with nature. What is nature? The unspoiled nature is not always better - one of the matagi Inomata Akio teaches us the art of co-existing with nature. | Director's Bio/Filmography | Born in Hokkaido in 1959. Abiko won various awards with the NHK program “A Story of Daphney and Elena” and other TV programs. Since 1998, he has been living in a forest and capturing nature. His films "Tsuki no Sho" and "Meguri Meguru Inochi no Monogatari" were both screened at Japan Wildlife Film Festival in 1999 and 2011. Abiko started making films in 2009. His credits include "Hinoemata Kabuki YARUBEYA" (2011) (screened at the YIDFF2011 Cinema with Us program), "IKITEKOSO" (2013) and "HARU YO KOI"(2015). |
